Steel City Downhill is the biggest little race – a community run event for racers and spectators alike, with a huge following both locally and nationally. It’s run in partnership with Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust and Ride Sheffield, who manage the 3 trails in Greno woods where the race is run.
The race has always been run as a non-profit, to give back to the Wildlife Trust and maintain the trails, but for 2025 we stepped this up with the target of raising money to re-build Pub Run, one of the other trails in Greno. We asked for donations on entry, which went down better than could have been expected, with folks digging deep and proudly making use of the re-usable pint pots that came with the suggested £5 entry charge.
This raised more money that the race has ever managed, allowing funds to re-build Pub Run as planned – and we’re keen to repeat that again this year- this time with funds raised going to repair works on the race track itself, Steel City – even more fitting!
So, whether you bring along your pint pot from last year or not – we’ll be shaking those buckets and waving the card machines for your money again. We’re hoping to add an additional donation option to the race entries page too, so spectators and racers can all help to top up the funds for the race track repairs!
Speaking of which, entries will go live at 7pm on Sunday 21st June. Get it in the diary, set your alarms and make sure that you’re there and ready to go at 7 sharp! Most categories sell out in minutes, so it’s fastest finger first.
