On Saturday we race!

Its the Biggest little this Saturday and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the woods for a celebration of everything we love about mountain biking! Back in 2011 we first put our heads together to fill the DH sized hole in Sheffield’s race scene and its been many of our favourite weekends of the year ever since.

Its an event for the community, by the community, with the sole purpose of raising money to keep the trails in Greno great and have a bloody good time in the process. We are completely run by volunteers, no one is getting paid, its all done for the love. Greno woods are owned and cared for by the Sheffield and Rotherham wildlife trust who we work with to improve the woods for everyone.

It takes a huge amount of work and an awful lot of goodwill to make this little event happen, so help us in any way you can. Here’s everything you need to know. Last year, for the first time ever, we charged entry to come and spectate at the race. This helped us to raise enough money to bring Pub Run up to the same standard as Steel City and DH3. This year we’re doing that same and aiming to give Steel City the same treatment! Therefore, we’re going to charge each spectator £5 or each family £15 as they come in to the woods. For this you’ll get a full day of entertainment, a SCDH reusable pint pot and a wonderful sense of wellbeing that you’ve done some good. Yes you could sneak around and not pay, but then you’d be a dick.

This year we’re again powered by Peaty’s Products. Racing begins at 11:45 and final runs will be around 2:30pm. The course is open for practice at 8:30 so there will be plenty to see all day long.Prize giving and champagne spraying will be 20 minutes after the final runs of the elite men, around 5ish.

We would like to be as sustainable as we can this year. All drinks will be served in a reusable plastic pint pot which will be yours for the day. Please make sure you sort your recycling in to the bins provided and take your used glasses home. Lets leave these woods cleaner than we found them.

Parking

If you are driving to the race you must park in our official car park. Parking anywhere else, in the public Greno car park or on the road, jeopardises the running of the race on the day and in future. Please be responsible.

Parking is in Farmer Jack’s field, at Hall Head Farm on Woodhead Road, the entrance will be clearly marked. It is marked on the map below  by the car and the closest postcode is S35 7DS but dont rely on it for a Sat Nav. Do not try to come in to the exit, marked with a man, it is a one way system. Parking is £5 CASH per vehicle and offsets the loss of earnings from hay from damage to the grass in the field.
The car park opens at 7am it will close for entry at 3pm. Please remove your car as soon as possible after the race.

Map to find us

The Wildlife trust Greno Woods is a nature reserve owned and managed by Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust. It is an ancient woodland, rich in wildlife and full of historic interest. Covering 169 hectares, it is one of the Trust’s largest reserves and offers excellent opportunities for wildlife watching, exploration and recreation.
The Trust has carried out work on the reserve to increase the proportion and quality of priority habitats on the site and maintain features of interest as well as maintain and improve recreational infrastructure such as our downhill mountain bike trails.

Help protect and enhance our local wildlife and green spaces by joining Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust. By joining Sheffield and Rotherham’s community of wildlife lovers today you can help care for the wild places you love – preserving them for years to come.

The race is run as a not for profit event, with all funds raised from the race go directly back into the trails in Greno Woods and to support mountain bike projects around the city. The race is made possible by all the volunteers that give their time willingly to make good things happen in the city that we love for the sport that we love.

The race is organised by Steve Peat, Steve Hardcastle, Henry Norman, Simon Bowns, Mayor Dallow and Nick Hamilton. If you see them… give them Knucks or a Hug, the force is strong with these ones.
